Zynga will name Julie Shumaker its new vp of North American ad sales, a source close to the company tells us. Shumaker comes from social game developer RockYou Media, where she was svp/general manager. She will report to Zynga chief marketing and revenue officer Jeff Karp.

Both Shumaker and Karp are alumni of Electronic Arts, where she was a senior director of video game advertising until 2006 and he was an svp/chief revenue officer until last year. At EA, Shumaker drove brand initiatives inside The Sims.

She's also a former professional golfer and a marathoner, the source says.

Prior to RockYou, Shumaker was at 4Info as svp/sales and marketing. There, she was in charge of "establishing market position for data targeting platform in mobile," our source says. She also oversaw the acquisition of Butter, a mobile-marketing firm that connects brands and apps for content sponsorships.

At Zynga, one of Shumaker's goals will be to increase ad revenues while not ruining gameplay inside Zynga's free games. Zynga has struggled with that balance in the past. Ad revenues declined 36 percent in 2010 to $23 million, after Zynga pulled back on ads inside games to improve play quality. In 2011, ad revenue increased 226 percent to $74 million:
