TUAW TV Live at 5 PM ET: Music, books, and apps

There's a surprising dearth of Apple-related news this week, other than pundits talking about how almost every company at CES is copying Apple's innovations in one way or another. No worries -- if you're depressed hearing about the latest cheesy MacBook Air clone or some other company's iPad ripoff, I'll cheer you up this afternoon with another episode of TUAW TV Live.

Looking into the box of goodies here at the TUAW TV Live studio, I find that I have a pocket-sized analog synthesizer that can be used to process output from an iPad, iPhone or musical instrument; an iPad app that lets you run Microsoft Office on your device for free; a free GPS navigation app; a handful of Apple-related books (both physical and electronic); and other digital flotsam and jetsam that is bobbing around my rapidly sinking desk.

TUAW TV Live at 5 PM EDT: iPhone anticipation episode

Apple's announced the upcoming event at which we all hope to hear about a new iPhone or two, and I'm as giddy as a schoolgirl with anticipation. Well, as giddy as a 54 year-old guy can get, y'know? Today on TUAW TV Live, I want to share some thoughts and hopes for the new device(s) with you, and get your ideas about what we're going to see next Tuesday. Since it's going to be "your show," joining the chat is a must. TUAW TV Live: A demo-packed episode

I will demonstrate, in no particular order, the iRig Mic ($59.99) and its associated software, the iPad 2 versus the original iPad (side by side!), Zite (free), Chicken Balls HD ($2.99), GarageBand for iPad ($4.99) Flare ($9.99 intro price), and Bento 4 ($49 new, $29 upgrade). Heck, who knows? There may be more!

From your Mac or PC, go to the next page by clicking the Read More link at the bottom of this post, and you'll find a livestream viewer and a chat tool. The chat tool allows you to participate by asking questions or making comments.

If you're driving somewhere and would like to watch TUAW TV Live while you're stuck in traffic, please don't -- keep your eyes on the road! However, if someone else is doing the driving, you can watch the show on your iPhone and join the chat by downloading the free Ustream Viewing Application. If you're on an iPad, you should be able to use the Skyfire Browser to watch the stream, although you will not be able to participate in the chat.

TUAW TV Live at 5 PM EDT: Test your knowledge of Apple trivia

The last week has given Apple fans a chance to reminisce about the company, its products, and the individuals who have helped make history. Now it's your chance to show just how much you know about Apple.

Today on TUAW TV Live at 5 PM EDT, I'll have a pile of Apple trivia questions ranging in difficulty from stupidly easy to incredibly obscure. Depending on your memory of all things Apple (or your Google-fu) and your speed at typing the correct answer into the chat room, you can emerge at the end of the day with bragging rights as The Unofficial Apple Trivia Champion.

TUAW TV Live at 5 PM EDT: A Welshman and a Coloradan walk into a bar...

Today on TUAW TV Live I have the distinct pleasure of introducing you to one of our TUAW bloggers and resident Welshman, Dr. Richard Gaywood. Rich has been writing for us for a while, and he's known for his insights into just about everything. I don't know how many times we've been lounging around the TUAW newsroom and asked a hypothetical question, only to have Rich send us a well-researched statistical dissertation a few minutes later.

On this afternoon's show, Rich and I will be kicking around the news from the WWDC keynote on Monday. Whether the topic is Versions in Mac OS X 10.7 Lion or the notification screen in iOS 5, the two of us are fairly likely to have an opinion.

We'll also be taking questions and comments about the recent TUAW redesign. As our fearless leader Victor Agreda has said, "release early and refine often," so your feedback will be welcome. We are not going back to the old design, though...

Provided the technical bits work properly (and I am making sure I have a fallback plan), I'll be your guide through several fun, useful, and even educational iPad apps that you may not have been aware of.

TUAW TV Live at 5 PM EDT: Alternatives to iWeb demoed

A few days ago, I published a list of ways that iWeb users could host their content away from MobileMe or move to other alternatives. Today on TUAW TV Live, I'll be demonstrating some of those alternatives for the audience.

Whether you're looking at RapidWeaver as a replacement for iWeb, want a WYSIWYG HTML editor to maintain an existing iWeb site, or are thinking about moving to a web-based content management system like WordPress, I'll cover it this afternoon. I've used a lot of these tools over the years, so I'll give you my take on each of the apps or services as well.

TUAW TV Live at 5 PM ET: A little bit of everything

I'm still in a tizzy running around doing sixteen things at once, so I wasn't able to get a guest lined up for today's TUAW TV Live. So, what's a live streaming video host to do? Easy -- just talk about a lot of new and wonderful things for Apple devices, chat with viewers about the news, throw in a little Apple trivia and discuss the differences between publishing a book on the Amazon Kindle Bookstore and the Apple iBookstore.

I have such a wide variety of apps to show you today that I'm not even going to list them here. Suffice it to say that I'll demo enough apps to keep you entertained for an hour! And I'll also be demoing my setup for Friday, when I'm hoping to do some livestreaming video from the iPad 2 line.
