These Turntables Double as an Interactive Display [Video]
Andrew Liszewski
Modern DJs use setups that allow their vinyl turntables to control the digital music on their laptops. But instead of staring at a screen all night, this projector-enhanced setup turns their wheels of steel into an interactive display. More »

Watch this Band Play with Killer Gunmetal Instruments
#watchthis Confiscated weapons are always destroyed, but that doesn't mean the wreckage can't be used for something. Artist Pedro Reyes took the remains of 6,700 guns—many of which had probably seen some action—and used their dismembered parts to build instruments for a makeshift gunmetal orchestra. Look At This Wicked Technics Inspired Motorcycle
#motorcycles In case you haven't picked up on it by now: Anything goes at CES. But at least this collaboration between Technics and custom bike builder Roland Sands is easy on the eyes and ears. Inspired by the Technics DH1-1200 and SL-1200MK2 turntables, Sands reworked a Harley Davidson Iron 883 and I'd say he nailed it. I don't like Harleys at all but I am a fan of Sands, so I'd be down with this ride. And if you're wondering who that Billy Ray Cyrus lookalike in the video is, it's Andy Bell of Nitro Circus fame. Traktor DJ for iPad Is Better Than Turntables
#ipadapps If you go out and hunt for a DJ app that lets you mix together two different tracks, you're going to come across a lot of really, really, bad design. Even the best stuff is a hell of fake spinning turntable skeuomorphs. After playing with Native Instruments' Traktor DJ for iPad, we're sure there's a better way. It takes advantage of the iPad's tabletness—rather than pretending the iPad is a Technics deck. More » Read similar

Styx: Mr. Roboto
#soundtrack Most of the Gizmodo team just got back from the week-long technological pummeling that is CES. Vegas is already a labyrinth designed to trap you in its debaucherous, hedonistic core. But now throw in giant walls of 4K tvs and the constant threat of being trampled by stampeding tech writers; you're bound to start feeling a little suffocated. And yet, despite all that, we keep coming back. More » Read similar
