Yahoo! Becomes Exclusive Partner Of 49ers Online Content

I get as excited as anyone thinking about the upcoming 49ers season. Quite a bit has happened since we were five yards from winning the Super Bowl. Yahoo! Becomes Exclusive Partner Of 49ers Online Content

I get as excited as anyone thinking about the upcoming 49ers season. Quite a bit has happened since we were five yards from winning the Super Bowl. The stadium was branded with the Levi’s logo, we got Anquan Boldin from the Ravens for pretty much nothing, and Michael Crabtree suffered a hefty injury. Yahoo!, while on a purchasing spree of startups, decided to align themselves with SF’s most beloved football team (sorry Raider fans) by inking a 10 year deal that makes them the 49ers exclusive partner for online digital content.

Levi’s stadium has been called the “smartest” stadium ever built. With a focus on mobile, the 49ers took into account that nearly everyone who attends a game will be bringing their own smartphone. The stadium will be able to provide Wi-Fi to nearly 70,000 people on any given Sunday. Fans are said to be able to interact with other people in the stadium, watch replays from different camera angles, and possibly order food directly to their seats so they don’t have to miss a down of football. One of the most attractive highlights is being able to upload a photo to Flikr, and possibly be shown on the stadium’s jumbotron. That’s assuming, like me, you’ve always wanted to be on a jumbotron.

As part of the partnership, Yahoo! will be the exclusive digital content, social network, and online photo/video partner for the San Francisco 49ers. Expect to see lots of Yahoo! branding around the new stadium as they’ve been given rights to the Fantasy Football Lounge, along with logo placement inside and outside the stadium.

Partnerships like this are becoming more commonplace in the sports world. Big brands have been buying naming rights to stadiums for decades now. Tech companies have been no stranger to those deals. Oracle Arena and Overstock.com Coliseum are two such names bought by their respective companies for naming rights in Oakland.

Financial terms for the Yahoo! agreement weren’t revealed, but one can assume that such a high-profile stadium set to host the Super Bowl in three years can charge quite a premium. It’s also good to know Marissa Mayer wears red and gold on the weekends.

Kindle FreeTime Unlimited adds tons of popular new content to their program

About six months ago, Amazon released Kindle FreeTime Unlimited, an easy to use service that brings together all types of content kids and parents love (books, games, educational apps, and more) into one service. Today, Amazon let us know that since launch it has added more than a thousand books, games, educational apps, movies and TV shows to Kindle FreeTime Unlimited, including popular titles from Disney, Warner Bros. Interactive Entertainment, and Electronic Arts (EA). If you have been thinking of introducing your little one to the world of technology, this may be the place to start.

New kid-favorites currently being added to FreeTime Unlimited include Disney’s hit Where’s My Mickey?, Warner Brother’s LEGO Harry Potter Years 1-4, Dr. Seuss’s The Cat in the Hat Comes Back from Oceanhouse Media, Plants vs. Zombies by EA, and Houghton Mifflin Harcourt’s Curious George at the Zoo. According to Amazon, kids love FreeTime because they can easily explore content on their own, check out their favorite topics like “robots” or “princesses,” and can feel like an individual with their own customized profile. Parents love the program because all apps are secure and have removed in-app payments, advertisements and social media, all apps are screened for age-appropriateness, and once you make a purchase, it is yours forever.

Kindle FreeTime is a free service on the current generation Kindle Fire family. A really nice feature of the program is the way in which they have helped reinvent traditional parental controls. This newer program makes it possible for parents to personalize their children’s experience with easy-to-use tools such as Time Limits, a tool that allows parents to manage their children’s screen time. No more telling your child over and over that it is time to put down the game. With Time Limits, parents can set daily cut-offs, or restrict certain categories – like games and video – while leaving unlimited time for reading.

Kindle FreeTime Unlimited is an optional extension to Kindle FreeTime, and is available for Prime members for monthly fee of $2.99 per child or $6.99 per family. Customers who are not Prime members can subscribe to FreeTime Unlimited for $4.99 per child or $9.99 per family. For more information on Amazon FreeTime and FreeTime Unlimited, make sure to visit Amazon’s website.

Netflix and Amazon ink DreamWorks and Disney content deals

Netflix and Amazon’s LOVEFiLM are each getting a burst of new content, its been announced, with DreamWorks and Disney each promising fresh on-demand titles for the cord-cutting favorites. On Netflix, a new deal with DreamWorks will see more than 300 hours of new programming based on existing and upcoming franchises such as Turbo added, while LOVEFiLM will get a mixture of new and classic titles like Dumbo, Ratatouille, and Bedknobs and Broomsticks.

LOVEFiLM subscribers will get the benefit of Amazon’s new deal first, with the Disney titles arriving on the service from today. Big name movies like Wall-E and Lady and the Tramp are including, though LOVEFiLM is yet to detail the full list of new content.

As for Netflix, that deal with DreamWorks will take a little longer to reach fruition. The first of the original shows will be hitting the on-demand service in 2014, where they’ll be available across all the countries where Netflix is available, including the US, Canada, Europe, and Latin America.

Talk of a DreamWorks/Netflix content deal began back in 2011, when the streaming provider confirmed it would be featuring shows from the studio. Turbo was the first franchise plowed for potential characters, with a cartoon called Turbo: F.A.S.T. (Fast Action Stunt Team) revealed.

Meanwhile, Netflix US and Latin America will get new DreamWorks Animation films from next year, beginning with The Croods. That’ll be followed by Turbo and Mr. Peabody and Sherman.

The two deals announced on the same day marks the latest battle in the ongoing on-demand content war between Netflix and Amazon. Earlier this month, Amazon snapped up a deal with Viacom after many kid-favorite shows like Dora the Explorer disappeared from the Netflix catalog, leading to vocal complaints from many parents. Research suggests that, while Netflix maintains its lead in TV content, Amazon and Hulu are fast catching up.
